We're excited to announce Milivoj Popovic as our May 2017 3D Artist of the Month!
His winning image, the charming ‘Turtago’, won over the affections of the entire RebusFarm team in a heartbeat. From the rough skin to the amazingly detailed smooth and shiny shell – every line on Turtago’s body seems to be telling its own story.

When we asked Milivoj Popovic, the RebusFarm May 2017 3D Artist of the Month, whether he wanted to do a piece detailing the development process of his winning image, we were hoping for additional work in progress pictures to go along with our regular interview. Surpassing even our wildest expectations, Milivoj went above and beyond to provide our readers with an exclusive making-of, jam-packed with insider tips from the artist himself.
Make sure to read up on our interview with Milivoj here. Now without further ado, RebusFarm is proud to present The Making of ‘Turtago’.

CGI and Computer animation generally aim to produce the most polished and aesthetically pleasing results for the viewer, for obvious reasons. Enter Ugly, an experimental animated short that seemingly defies all rules and conventions of traditional animation, directed and produced by Russian-born filmmaker Nikita Diakur.
Exhibiting unique visuals and art direction bordering on the avant-garde, “Ugly” tells the story of a Native American chief and an ugly cat trying to find peace in a harsh environment. Having successfully received crowdfunding, the now finished short is about to hit this year’s festival circuit before its public release, starting with the prestigious Animafest Zagreb.
We had the chance to talk to Nikita about ‘Ugly’, the creative vision behind it and the experimental approach his team took in animating.

“Look behind you, a three-headed monkey!” No wait, it's actually Daniel Karner, our April 2017 3D Artist of the Month, taking us on a trip down memory lane. Titled “Back in 1991”, his winning image is an homage to the golden age of computer gaming, depicting a scene filled to the brim with memorabilia from the early nineties. The photorealistic imagery showcases stunning lighting and an expert understanding of compositing, while the amazing attention to detail is sure to make every geek of sufficient age squeal with nostalgic glee. Continue reading to learn more about the artist behind the image and for an in-depth making-of by Daniel Karner himself.
